Conspiracy!
While driving to work the same old way, at the same old time in the same old car, I realised that… Hey! There are much fewer cars on the road today. Immediately panic starts to set in. Is this the first day of the $100 ERP? Am I being punished for not paying attention to the news? Why so few cars? The last question was uttered out loudly. The semi comatose wife next to me on being jolted out of her slumber. Immediately replied, “It’s the eve of new year today! Most people are already on leave and still in bed.” You can never imagine. What a relief I felt.
Before I knew it, the ERP gantry came looming before my eyes. Beep! Went my IU. Eh? How come the traffic so smooth, I’m still paying my usual amount? Didn’t the wise old people at LTA say that if traffic speeds fall below a certain level, ERP would be charged? Likewise, shouldn’t ERP charges be waived if the roads are as smooth and traffic free? Guess it doesn’t work this way…
The next thought that flash through my over active mind this morning was, wouldn’t it be good if it was new year’s eve everyday? Then LTA can say that ERP really works, I get a fuss free drive to office and the wife won’t have to listen to so many swear words in the morning. Now, how to make this a reality? Of course! Let half the people in Singapore off every other day! Then we would have less work, have less stress, have more time for the family and have a happier life. Now, wouldn’t that be nice.
Happy Lunar New Year!
